Farewell (Adieu) to Bernie Harten

Monday, February 11, 2013

Recently a tribute night was held for one of our longest serving members, Bernie Harten, who has gone on to pastures new in County Meath. Bernie was involved in well over 50 productions with Ennis Players (from 1988 - to date) and has directed and acted in some of our most decorated productions down through the years. She has also been a mainstay of our backstage crew, taking on several stage manager roles.

Not only has Bernie been involved in the artistic side of our group, she has also served on the committee, in the process, taken on the role of various officers, acting as Chairperson, Secretary and PRO.

Speaking on behalf of the Players on the night, current Chairperson, Jackie Scanlan acknowledged Bernie’s major contribution to Ennis Players and wished her every success in her future career, both on and off the stage.

As Synge almost put it, “We’ve lost her surely, we’ve lost the only Playgirl of the Western World”
