Launch of SIVE

On Saturday February 2nd Ennis Players hosted a launch of their upcoming production of SIVE to mark the 60th Anniversary of its first ever staging by the Listowel Players. Rejected by the Abbey Theatre, John B’s first play was performed in Walsh’s Ballroom, Listowel on February 2nd 1959 to great acclaim and went on to win the All-Ireland Drama Finals in Athlone that year. 


Ennis Players will present John B. Keane's SIVE, directed by Bernie Harten in glor from Wed 20th - Sat 23rd March 2019. Telling the heartbreaking story of the innocent SIVE who is to be sold to the old Sean Dota as his wife for £200. SIVE's aunt Mena and the local matchmaker, Thomasheen Sean Rua connive to make the match out of greed and the desire to escape poverty. SIVE's grandmother Nanna is powerless to prevent the match and her son Mike too weak and influenced by his wife to intervene.

Ennis Players are an amateur theatre group, based in Co. Clare on the west coast of Ireland. The current Group has been in existence since the 1970s and started competing on the Irish Drama Festival circuit in the mid-1980s. They have enjoyed considerable success with their productions at local, national and international level. We welcome all new members and we thank the local community for their continued support.
